What are the inputs per leg?

Each leg takes five inputs: type (Call/CE or Put/PE), side (Buy or Sell), strike price , premium (price per unit), and quantity (in lots). The calculator multiplies qty × lot size automatically.

How do I set the current spot price?

There's a Spot input at the top of the calculator. For NIFTY, default is the live index; you can override to any value to stress-test the strategy at different spot levels. The chart will re-center on your chosen spot.

How do I set the lot size?

The lot size input defaults to the official NSE size (NIFTY = 25, Bank Nifty = 15, Fin Nifty = 65, Midcap Nifty = 120). Change it to match the instrument you are trading — the rupee P&L scales accordingly.

How do I read the payoff chart?

The X-axis shows NIFTY spot at expiry; the Y-axis shows net rupee P&L. The curve shows what your strategy is worth at every possible expiry level. A vertical marker highlights the current spot.

How are breakeven points shown?

Breakeven points are the spot levels where the curve crosses the zero line . The calculator labels them on the chart (e.g., BE1: 24,150, BE2: 24,550) so you can see exactly where profit turns to loss.

What does the green area represent?

The green area is the profit zone — any spot value in that region produces a positive P&L at expiry. The peak of the green area is your max profit (if bounded).

What does the red area represent?

The red area is the loss zone — any spot value there produces a negative P&L at expiry. The deepest point is your max loss (or unlimited if the tail extends off-chart).

What is the zero line on the chart?

The zero line is the horizontal P&L = 0 reference. Where the payoff curve touches this line you have a breakeven. Above = profit, below = loss. It is the single most useful visual reference on a payoff chart.

How does the calculator compute P&L?

For each leg, it computes intrinsic value at expiry − premium paid for longs and premium received − intrinsic value at expiry for shorts, then sums across legs and multiplies by qty × lot size.

What is with-lots vs per-unit P&L?

Per-unit P&L ignores lot size — useful for comparing strategies abstractly. With-lots P&L multiplies by qty × lot size to show the actual rupee amount hitting your account. Toggle the view using the unit switch.

How does the calculator handle debit vs credit trades?

If the net of all legs is a payment (longs > shorts), it's a debit trade and the calculator shows a negative initial cost. If the net is a receipt (shorts > longs), it's a credit trade and initial cost is positive.

Does the calculator show risk-reward ratio?

Yes. The risk-reward card displays |max loss| : |max profit| as a ratio (e.g., 1:2.3). If either side is unlimited, the RR shows ∞ or undefined .

How are unlimited profit/loss shown?

If the payoff tails never flatten (e.g., naked short call), the calculator labels that side as UNLIMITED on the chart and in the stats card. This warns you that the strategy carries uncapped risk.

The calculator uses expiry-based payoff math , which is mathematically exact for a European-style option at expiry. Intra-trade (pre-expiry) P&L is not modeled because it depends on Greeks and IV changes.

Does the calculator include margin?

No — margin requirements are not shown. For SPAN + exposure margin, check your broker terminal (Zerodha Margin Calculator, Upstox, Dhan). The payoff chart focuses purely on P&L, not capital blocked.

Does it include brokerage?

No, the displayed P&L is gross, pre-brokerage . Add your broker's flat fee (typically ₹20 per leg per side) manually to get net P&L. For 4-leg strategies that's ~₹160 round-trip with discount brokers.

Does it include STT and other taxes?

No. STT, stamp duty, exchange charges and GST are not deducted. STT on options is charged on the sell side and on exercised ITM options — add approx 0.05–0.125% of traded value for a rough estimate.

Does the calculator account for slippage?

No. The payoff assumes you get filled at the premiums you enter. In practice, thin liquidity or wide bid-ask spreads can cause slippage . Factor in 1–2 ticks per leg for realistic calculations.

Does the calculator use live NIFTY chain prices?

When you use a preset or import from the chain, it pulls live premiums. When you enter legs manually, it uses whatever premium you type — so you can test hypothetical scenarios or historical prices.

Can I enter premium manually?

Yes. Every leg has an editable Premium field. Enter the last traded price from your broker, a custom "what-if" price, or leave it blank to pull the latest from the WealthOrbit chain.

Can I update premiums in real-time?

Yes. Click Refresh Premiums to re-pull the latest LTP for every leg from the NIFTY chain. The chart and stats update instantly to reflect the refreshed trade.

Can I save custom strategies?

Not as a named account-bound save (we have no login). But every strategy is encoded in the URL, so bookmark the page or copy the link to revisit your exact setup later.

Can I share a strategy link with someone?

Yes — the full strategy (all legs, strikes, premiums, spot, lot size) is encoded in the URL. Copy the browser address and share it over WhatsApp, Telegram or email. The recipient sees the same chart.

Does the CSV export include Greeks?

The CSV currently exports the payoff table (spot, per-leg P&L, total P&L). Combined Greeks are shown on-screen but not included in the CSV export — open an issue if you need them exported too.

Can I run a historical backtest in the calculator?

No — historical backtesting is not available in the payoff calculator. It is a pre-trade planning tool. For multi-year backtests, use dedicated platforms like Opstra or Sensibull.

Does the calculator show probability of profit?

Yes. POP (Probability of Profit) is displayed next to the risk-reward card, derived from the distance between breakevens and spot, adjusted for IV. It gives you a quick win-probability read.

How is POP calculated?

POP uses a lognormal distribution based on the ATM implied volatility and time to expiry. It estimates the probability that NIFTY ends inside the profit zone. Treat it as approximate — real markets are fat-tailed.

Does the calculator show combined Greeks?

Yes. Below the chart, a Greeks panel shows net Delta, net Gamma, net Theta and net Vega for the whole strategy. Use this to understand how the position behaves before expiry.

What does net Delta tell me?

Net Delta is the combined directional exposure of all legs. Positive Delta = bullish bias, negative = bearish, near zero = delta-neutral. A delta of +50 per lot means P&L changes ~₹50 per 1 NIFTY point move.

What does net Gamma tell me?

Net Gamma shows how quickly Delta changes as spot moves. High positive gamma = long options (benefits from big moves). High negative gamma = short options (hurt by big moves, especially near expiry).

What does net Theta tell me?

Net Theta is the daily P&L change from time decay. Positive theta = you make money each day if spot is stationary (credit strategies). Negative theta = you lose money each day (debit strategies).

What does net Vega tell me?

Net Vega is P&L change per 1% change in IV. Positive Vega = long volatility (benefits from VIX spikes). Negative Vega = short volatility (benefits from IV crush after events).
